There are many reasons for wanting to remove this icon. If the USB ports are recognized by Knoppix, you'll know that it is a Windows problem, probably drivers. After shutting down and booting windows it then recognised the 1.1 devices! It has a Pentium 2 333mhz, 64mb ram, 6.4gb HDD, dial up, infrared and 1 USB 1.1 port.
